Your final task consists of integrating the challenges from 3
different modules;
Weave a related motive (IVN) through the font and
self-portrait. This motive should convey a narrative or theme
that reflects your personal or artistic identity.
Experiment with typography and layout to integrate the motive
seamlessly with your font and self-portrait.
Ensure the visual narrative created supports the overall
message of your poster.
In your final task, you will bring together the knowledge and
skills acquired from three different modules: Typography,
Illustration & Visual Narrative, and Digital Imaging &
Photography. Your goal is to create an integrated poster that
showcases your abilities in each of these areas. You will use a
custom font you've created (Typo), incorporate a self-portrait
(DIP), and weave a related motive (IVN) through the font and
image, resulting in a visually compelling and conceptually rich
Poster. Typography; Illustration &; Visual Narrative; and Digital
Imaging &; Photography.
You will use the font created (Typo) in a poster that features
your self-portrait (DIP), and you will weave a related motive
(IVN) through the font and image.
The end result is an integrated poster

3.1 Research
Rationale
Hello! My name is Velicia from Indonesia. I'm 18 this year, and soon will
be 19. I'm taking the design course Bachelor in Creative Media. I have 1
younger sister whom I have a love-hate relationship with.
I want to make stuff with my own hands, whether it be digital art, making
games, pottery, miniature, crochet, painting, or stories, it needs to be
done with my hands. I also like long walks (without carrying anything,
without burden), I also like birds, BIRDS, they're free up there a whole
sky to play around. Flowers and stars too, how they have their own
language to leave secret messages and a universe compass as a guide to
Help people move around.
My motivation comes from stories and other people. I love reading stories,
They gave me so much whiplash. I cheer for the characters, I cry for them,
I love, hate, hope, weep, forgive, mad, and way more. They gave me hope,
hope for other possibilities, where imagination runs wild, where love and
kindness despite all odds prevail, and not this world's wars, lies, and
unnecessary cruelness. And I have met people that prove that hope still
exist and I want to be that hope to other people.
I want to visualize my passion in an artwork with a book to symbolize
stories, with flowers, birds, stars, and many handmade stuff a lot of
possibilities. From my artwork I want people to be inspired and believe
that their hopes and dreams are possible and actively trying to achieve
them.

3.2 Digitizing
Photoshoot Session
I planned to add a couple of stacked in the composition, and the easiest way is to photoshoot it in the library. Cause: I didn't sketch this, I took a couple of shots from many different angles and later chose one that left. The library was quite deserted as it was quite late.
It was hard to find good lighting in the library, most spots lights were too harsh or too little. I ended up taking a couple of shots anyway (with help from a friend) to see what angle should be the portrait be taken from the sketch, so next time I can do it faster.
The next day in the library I wore better clothes for the photoshoot and found good lighting and enough space for it. It was also quite a trip to find a book that' big enough for this.
First things first I opened all of the images (some are already without background) needed in Photoshop and erased the background with the quick selection tool > select subject > and made a more detailed selection.

Fig 2.16 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 15, 2023).
This particular stack of books is taken from the uni library, I chose the one with an angle that makes sense in the composition and is easy to adjust if needed.
Fig 2.17 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 15, 2023).
I arranged all of the objects according to the sketch. I also added rubble, cracks on the ground, and
cobwebs. I also added adjustment filter curve to the background to add contrast.
Fig 2.18 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 15, 2023).
I add shadows to all of the objects using a black brush then blurs them with gradient blur.
Fig 2.19 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 15, 2023).
Fig 2.20 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 15, 2023).
I had an idea to add a lantern with light coming out of it. The original color was grey and looked washed out in the composition. So I changed it to green using the overlay layer.
Fig 2.21 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 15, 2023).
Fig 2.22 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 15, 2023).
And for the light I used a simple circle shape with a yellow gradient and gradient blur it.
Fig 2.23 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 15, 2023).
For the cobwebs, I tried to add shadows with previous methods and it just did not work. So I just stacked black overlay cobwebs under grey overlay cobwebs to make the illusion of shadows.
Fig 2.24 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 15, 2023).
I was thinking of coloring the cobwebs white but white is too bright for the composition and it just stole the spotlight from the main subject.
Fig 2.25 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 15, 2023).
This is the final result of the composition in Photoshop, I used methods that were taught to me such as:
Selection Tool
shadows (gradient blur)
recoloring (overlay layer)
adjustment filters (curve)
Fig 2.26 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 15, 2023).
I import it to Illustrator and sketch it up and my font from typography to it. I adjusted the word "COLOR" in the wave to make looked like it's flowing and curling to the waves as the original font is very rigid and doesn't make sense to use in the wave.
Fig 2.27 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 16, 2023).
One color on the wave is too bland for me, so I added more colors to it and added a border to the words for easy readability.
Fig 2.28 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 16, 2023).
To make it look like it popped out of the book to reality I use the 3D adjustment inflate. Couple of problems with this, one of them is that I have to cut each shape and make sure nothing is stacked on top of another to achieve this look.
Then another problem was that the gradient I gave to each of the shapes changed randomly usually going to the darker colors and I had to edit the gradient again with much difficulty.
Fig 2.29 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 16, 2023).
Fig 2.30 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 16, 2023).
I wanted to add a couple of elements of "magic" to it and using the pen tool traced a couple of them (flowers , fishes, butterfly, birds). Then add a colorful gradient and make it 3D. And just spread it around empty spaces.
Fig 2.31 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 16, 2023).
Fig 2.32 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12 (Dec 16, 2023).
This is the final result of the composition in Illustration, I used methods that were taught to me such as:
pen tool
3D and Materials
gradient, blur, and opacity
expand appearance
Fig 2.33 Digital Poster Progress, Week 12(Dec 16, 2023).
Then in After Effects for the wave, I just used a simple mask with
with increased mask feather to make the transition smoother. I did
have to adjust the mask a little bit to follow the curves of the
wave and add an expansion so the wave doesn't get cut off when the
mask is adjusted. I also added the glow effect to the wave.
For the extra elements, I added the glow effect (experiment with it to achieve the best result) and used the rotation nodes to make it sway side to side slowly.
The new stuff I added was the starburst effect it makes a lot of tiny floating particles that are perfect for this. I adjust the speed, size, and the colors of it.
Another thing I added was the glowing line moving around the wave and spelling out the word "COLOR". I used pen tool to make the path and used a free plugin from a tutorial on YouTube to make it. Using many effects to achieve this, then I make my changes to it, such as changing the color of it every few seconds.
This is the final result of the composition in After Effect, I used methods that were taught to me such axle:
mask (max path, mask feather)
transform (rotation, opacity)
adding sounds
New Effects (Starburts, Saber, Glow)

4. FEEDBACK
Week 10
General feedback: Did not ask for feedback.
Week 11
General feedback: Did not ask for feedback.
Week 12
General feedback: For the sketch, I can integrate the fonts already. But in the meanwhile can fill up the background also with the details that you plan to have right now there's a lot of negative space and the composition doesn't seem "tight" yet
Week 13
General feedback: Mr said that the illustration looked ok and asked how it looked animated and I said that used the 3D feature.
Week 14
General feedback: Asked for feedback but didn't get an answer.
5. REFLECTION
5.1 Experience
This task has been the most fun and most exhausting of all the others. It took so much time and energy, but also so much freedom in how I can make it. The theme of self-passion opens the door to imagination wide open.
This task doesn't limit me on what I know or don't know, so in the process of it, alongside using the skill I learned I also learn many new features. As the sketch I made requires more than what I know then I need to get creative or find new resources I can use. I'm glad that I got to finish this task with a satisfying result, although it was rushed as I didn't manage my time well.
5.2 Observations
This project has helped me discover more features in the art programs used, use the tools available to tell a story with these mediums, and further improve my skills in envisioning the art I want to create. I've learned to trust the difficult process of self-improvement.
5.3 Findings
This poster or animation is a testament to how much I have learned and utilized in the past three months. Using my imagination and visualizing the best I could as self-representation. And safe to say that I'm proud of how far I come even with all of the shortcomings. I hoped to be better at this and better at managing my time in the future.
